Power Flushing

You service your car, and you service your boiler, but have you serviced your heating system?

Here in Wiltshire we have hard water – you probably already know this because you can see the scaly deposits building up on your taps, and your shower screen probably has a white, smeary residue.

Not noticed this before? Then take a look inside your kettle and see the scale! Even if you use a water filter, scale continues to build up. It’s quite easy to rinse out your kettle and use a little vinegar to get rid of it, but your heating system isn’t quite as simple, as it has nowhere for the scale to go.

Imagine the years of scale and sludge running through your heating system, slowly coating the inside of your pipes, obstructing the flow and causing a variety of issues.

If you are experiencing any of the following, your system may be in need of some care and attention:

  • Cold spots in your radiators that no amount of bleeding corrects.

  • When you put the heating on, it takes forever to warm the house to a comfortable temperature.

  • Imbalanced heat throughout your house creating saunas in one room and arctic tundras in another.

  • Scary sounds coming from your boiler that make you think you’re in a horror movie.

  • High energy bills that have nothing to do with the rise in gas prices.

If scale builds up and the corrosion deposits are left unchecked, your system could be heading towards a full break down… and replacing a boiler or an entire heating system is an expensive job.

Don’t let this happen to your heating system.

Power flushing your system can help prevent a full system failure and has the added benefits of…

  • Preventing scale build up that decreases the water flow, causing cold spots.

  • Prolonging the life of your boiler so you can instead spend the money on your next cruise.

  • Reducing your heating bills as your system becomes more efficient.

  • Consistent heat throughout your house so no more tweaking of the thermostats or bleeding radiators trying to find the optimal temperatures.

  • A fast response when the heating is triggered, resulting in a nice warm house in no time.

How Power Flushing Works

We use specialised equipment to flush your system thoroughly using the appropriate chemicals for your specific boiler and system. Each radiator is then individually flushed without having to remove or disconnect them from the system.

During the flushing process the unwanted debris is purged using a higher velocity of water than your regular flow, rather than a high pressure which could results in blown pipes and fittings. This high velocity water loosens and mobilises the harmful deposits enabling us to ‘pick up’ the debris with the use of a powerful magnetic filter.

We carefully record before and after temperatures so you can see and feel the difference. And if you’re one for evidence, we’ll gladly show you what we pull from your system with the magnetic filter!

Power flushing is not a high pressure operation and is suitable for most domestic wet central heating systems. Often the entire process can be completed in one day depending on the size of your system.

Good care and maintenance of a system as well as additional use of corrosion and scale inhibitor will often prevent and cure the majority of the issues like radiator cold spots, unusual boiler noises, blocked radiators and pipes, inadequate water supply, contamination in the feed and expansion tank as well as the failure of pumps, radiators and valves.

PLUS if you opt for a Magnaclean installation (to add continued care) your system will be sludge free for longer – with a yearly maintained cartridge, which you can clean yourself.

If you’ve been living in a house for more than ten years without having a power flush, you may be at high risk of a system failure.

Take a look at what we regularly find in heating systems below…

What you see here is our power flush magnet chamber – and yes that really is the colour of the water we’ve pulled from the heating system!  That’s 25 years of dirt, grime and scale.

And here you see the magnet with all the muck attached. This is what was preventing our customer’s radiators from getting warm.  Imagine what might be in your system….
